Stage 1 + TCU.

The VW Golf R MK8 is one of the most capable hot hatches ever built, powered by the EA888 Evo4 2.0 TSI producing 320PS from the factory. With a custom Stage 1 ECU calibration and DQ381 TCU gearbox tune from DC Remapping, it becomes a genuinely serious performance car.

We consistently achieve 409bhp and 577Nm on the dyno, transforming the way the Golf R drives. Power is available much earlier in the rev range, the mid-range is substantially stronger and the top-end pull is noticeably more sustained.

The Stage 1 ECU tune and DQ381 TCU calibration are developed together to work as one cohesive package. Shift speed in Sport and Race modes is dramatically improved, the gearbox holds gears correctly under power and torque limits are raised to match the increased engine output.

An uprated air intake is required to achieve the figures shown. The factory airbox becomes a restriction at Stage 1 power levels on the Golf R MK8 — a performance intake is needed to allow the engine to breathe correctly and reach its full potential. Figures also vary depending on fuel quality — results shown are on 99RON. On 97RON you can expect slightly lower outputs.

The DQ381 7-speed wet clutch DSG fitted to the Golf R MK8 is a strong, capable unit — but from the factory it is calibrated for comfort and fuel economy, not outright performance.

Our TCU calibration transforms how the gearbox feels. Shift times in Sport and Race modes are dramatically reduced, the gearbox holds gears correctly under power and torque limits are raised to properly handle the increased output from the Stage 1 ECU tune.

The result is a Golf R that feels completely cohesive — the engine and gearbox working together rather than against each other. Fully reversible at any time.
